Sep 16th - General Meeting... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 49 Active members - 2 Guest & 16 Mbrs Attending.
Guests: AliPerry&AmyRolleri
The Beginnings: President Terry extended a warm welcome to our guests, Ali Perry (Director of the Barrow Gallery) and Amy Rolleri (enthusiastic community volunteer and Barrow Trustee), We recited the Pledge, sang "America the Beautiful (led by Danny R) and settled down to our first meeting at The Sherwood in 18 long months!
Project Reminders: Terry reminded us of the upcoming Duck Dash (email Jay to volunteer) and the Alzheimer's walk to be held on Sunday September 26th. See events below for more information on how to participate or donate.
The Program: President Terry introduced Ali Perry, Director of the Barrow Art Gallery. Ali and her family (husband, daughter and dog) recently moved to Skaneateles from Philadelphia. They discovered Skaneateles nine years ago to the day, Ali joined the Barrow Gallery in December 2020 and said when she first entered the gallery it was like "standing inside of a jewel box." The gallery is 121 years old and is "more than art" as it is about history, environment and preservation. It is unique as it is the only gallery in the world known to contain the life works of one artist and be designed by that artist, John D Barrow. Despite being closed until recently due to the pandemic there have been several projects completed to modernize operations and increase visibility: rebuilding of the State Street entrance, implementation of cloud based collection management and new signage. Ali told us about the "Twelve Months around Skaneateles Lake" project which involves the framing and plaquing of twelve paintings by Barrow reflecting the changes in nature throughout the year. Ali answered a number of questions. It was truly a wonderful presentation bringing us up to date on a valuable community jewel!
The Endings: Robin led us in the Four Way Test.
