PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Mary
Dear Fellow Club Members, I hope that you and your loved ones are all doing well, staying healthy and able to keep in touch with each other, even from a distance.
The Board of Directors met this week using Zoom (see summary below).  It was great to see everyone and we even got to meet James Wanamaker's new baby girl, Lydia!
It is with regret that the Board made the decision to cancel the 52nd annual Father's Day Pancake Breakfast.  The decision was made with the health and safety of our community, volunteers, Rotary members, families and friends in mind.  Also, there are too many uncertainties at this time with regard to when large gatherings will even be allowed. We will all miss this tradition but can look forward to 2021's breakfast with renewed enthusiasm.
The pancake breakfast is our club's fundraiser for the year that supports numerous worthy causes within our community.  I'm asking that everyone put their thinking caps on to come up with some alternative ways of raising funds for the year.  If you have an idea either email or call me and we'll put it on the agenda for next month's board meeting. ( mfgiroux0614@gmail.com and phone 315-291-7146)
We're also going to try out a club meeting for Thursday, April 16th using Zoom. The meeting will be at our regular time 6:30 and you can have your favorite cocktail in hand.   Zoom can be used on a phone, a laptop, and Ipads and other tablet devices.  You can download the app from https://zoom.us.  Ward will send out an email invitation for the meeting.  The email will have a link for you to click on to connect you to the meeting.  It will be great to see everyone so please join the meeting!
Lastly, I wish for a Happy Easter for all.  The sun is shining today and the daffodils are blooming.  Soon it will be warm weather with lots of grrenery.
Take Care and be Well, Mary
Board of Directors - Summary Notes .... by Ward
The SRC BOD met Apr 09, 2020 on-line, via Zoom,   following are the summary bullets of that meeting.
  • Minutes of the March meeting - were approved subsequent to the meeting via email.
  • Pancake Breakfast - It was recommended and approved to cancel this year's event due to the CoronaVirus.
  • Alternate Fund Raising - As our primary fund raiser (Pancake Breakfast) has been canceled, alternate fund raising options were discussed.  I was agreed that this would be discussed at the on-line club meeting on the 16th.
  • Future Club Meetings - On-line Zoom meeting were discussed and it was decided to give it a try on April 16th and see where we will go from there.
  • Financials - Club Skaneateles Foundation financials were reviewed by Marv Langley and we remain in good financial stead. A discussion of canceled projects and expenses issued (see Worth Cause below)
  • Worthy Cause - No new projects proposed.  A few of the previous approved projects have been canceled; therefore the allocated funds will not be expensed (Boys State, Easter Egg Hunt, RYLA & Duck Dash)
  • Multi-club District Grant -  Dale Drake reviewed the status of the proposed Baltimore Woods project.  He has three clubs, beyond our's, lined up with commitment to support, and one additional to contact.  More to come on this.
  • Next meeting - Scheduled for May 14th @ 5PM
Challenges Of My Virtual World. ... by Ward
With the many challenges we are presented with during these trying days, I attempted turning some virtual wood. It was fun and my imagination went wild in the creation of a multi segmented vase with feature rings.  However, I did not like the results as it would not take a suitable finish, and it was difficult to share the results with others. .... So I am back to the real stuff. However, when I run out of wood in the shop, I am afraid the household furniture will have to be sacrificed.
BTW, I have included and photo of the project, on a blue background.  (on the right)
IN MY FATHER'S KITCHEN. .... by Ward
Prior to the SRC's cancellation of our weekly meetings, Bill had scheduled John and Leigh-Ann Tumino founders and owners of In My Father's Kitchen, Inc. (IMFK) of Syracuse as our speakers for April 16th.   Therefore, I thought that I would give you a a brief glimpse into the life changing and life saving not-for-profit organization.
IMFK is a faith-based organization offering non-denominational and non-discriminatory assistance to homeless people through direct street outreach. IMFK provides food and basic necessitates to homeless individuals where they live on the streets, on a consistent and compassionate basis, until the individuals is comfortable accepting help and working with community agencies to secure housing.  The organization consist of one full-time employee, one full-time volunteer, and as many as 60 volunteers.
