LAST WEEK ... by Mary Giroux
The Beginnings:
President Elect Doug Powell open the meeting welcoming our guests, Linda Quick, Superintendent of the Skaneateles Central School  District and our exchange student, Tymon.
Reminder from Chuck Williams - If you missed paying for dinner at the Hilltop last week please do so at the next meeting.
Tables and Tickets - Amy Tormey reminded everyone that she needs to have table reservations and payments for our Christmas dinner fundraiser.  December 6th is right around the corner. (read more on notice below)
Club 200 - The first drawing is postponed til November   Cheryl Silvestrini still has lots of tickets available for this fun and easy fundraiser for worthy causes. (read more on notice below)
Bells, bells, bells - John Moran passed the sign up sheet around for bell ringing at Tops.  Lots of spots are still open.
The Program - Linda Quick, Superintendent, who has been on the job for 8 weeks, gave our members a concise update on the District's progress on Project 2021, safety upgrades and staff and student training.
Project 2021 which is expected to be a $38 million expense includes the following:  window replacements, heating system replacements, high school auditorium renovation, middle school gym repairs and updates, improvement of the commons area between the high school and middle school and the addition of a press box for sporting or other events.  Many of these repairs and renovations are due to the natural aging of the buildings.  They are expected to have long term benefits and make available more usable space for school and community events.
Safety upgrades include additional speakers inside and outside, a lock down alert system for all buildings, upgraded phones system and camera system and portable radios.
Student and staff training includes "stop the bleed" kits and training.
Linda addressed questions from members, making the point that training of students may not just be for school security but will hopefully aid them as they become young adults.
50-50 was one by Dave Lee, however he pulled the Jack of Clubs.....so close but no cigar.
Guests - Linda Quick, Superintendent SCSD and Tymon, our loyal exchange student from Poland.
Attendance - 23 at 44%
Current Membership - 53
DID YOU KNOW?
SHOWBOAT
These were floating theaters built on a barge that was pushed by a steamboat. These played small towns along the Mississippi River. Unlike the boat shown in the movie "Showboat" These did not have an engine. They were gaudy and attention grabbing which is why we say someone who is being the life of the party is showboating".
Annual Christmas Fundraiser, Dec. 6th
... by Cheryl Silvestrini
The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s Annual Christmas Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, December 6th, at the Skaneateles Country Club.  We will begin with a happy hour at 6 p.m. followed by a family-style turkey dinner at 7 pm.  Tickets are $30 and can be reserved in tables of 8 or 10.  Contact Amy Tormey at tormeyesl@verizon.net for reservations.
Don’t Forget…The organizing committee needs our Rotarians’ support in securing raffle prizes.  The goal is to have at least 50% of attendees win a prize. While local merchants and professionals will be canvassed again this year for donations, all Rotarians are also asked to donate prizes such as a bottle of wine, a gift card, etc.  Please let Roy MacDonald or David Piper know in advance of the event what you will be bringing in the way of a prize.  Even if you can’t attend the event, please contribute a raffle prize.
200 Club Fundraiser ... by Cheryl
It may not be as exciting as cracking eggs or flipping pancakes, but the “200 Club” Raffle is an easy way to raise money to benefit community and youth groups.  Here’s how it works:  we sell 200 tickets at $20 each for a total of $4,000.  We give away $1250 in prizes which leaves us with $2750 to use for worthy causes.
We will sell tickets starting 10/18/18.  Two $50 prizes will be drawn at our Club Meetings on 12/13, 12/20, 1/3, 1/10 & 1/17.  On 1/10, we will draw a $250 winner, as well as the $500 Grand Prize winner.  Also, all weekly winners will be put back into the raffle and be eligible for the Grand Prize!
We need to sell all 200 tickets for this raffle to work as outlined, so please consider selling at least 5 tickets to family, friends, co-workers, etc. – and don’t forget to buy your own!  Cheryl will have tickets available at all weekly meetings.  If paying by check, please make payable to Skaneateles Rotary Foundation.  Be sure the contact information is completed on the ticket and give that portion of the ticket to Cheryl along with ticket money/checks.  Thank you and good luck to everyone!
