Last WEEK Oct 20, 2022  by Mary
Membership/Attendance  - 39 active members, 22 attending
Guests - Kelly Springer (speaker) and Dr. Greg Ripich, Gigi Michel, Steve and Sandi Frackenpohl, Conner and Anna Finley, Skip and Marna Plank, Mario and Bethany Gutierrez, Katie Welch, Chad Martin, Josh and Alison Wells, Mike and Lori Panasci and many spouses!
The Beginnings - Following a cocktail reception that was enjoyed by all Co-President Ayham opened the meeting by inviting everyone to recite the Pledge of Allegiance after which Danny led us in "America the Beautiful."  Ayham warmly welcomed our many guests and Mary read the Invocation.  Co -President Ed then introduced our speaker, Kelly Springer.  Kelly is the founder and CEO of "Kelly's Choice" which is a nutritional consulting company.  Kelly designed the menu we enjoyed. Dinner service began and Kelly told us of the special and very healthy ingredient in our salad........black walnuts!  Who knew?  The main course included a loin pork roast which Kelly told us was a healthy and low-fat protein.  Kelly talked about changing diet habits by swapping out ingredients for healthier alternatives (think spices instead of the traditional salt, pepper, butter and gravy), the effect of omega three fats and much more.  In addition to our salad, dinner incorporated brussel sprouts, squash, beans and farro, all great sources of fiber and other nutrients.  Dinner ended with a sweet treat; brownies topped by black walnuts.  The brownies were made with black beans!  It was a delicious and informative meal.  Kelly did not disappoint in showing us that health eating can be fun and delicious!
Club Business -  Jay talked about the service aspect of our club.  The "Sleep in Heavenly Peace" bed build project is October 23rd.  The club was one of the organizers of the "Duck Dash."  Bill B talked about the Rotary Foundation and let us know that a letter about Foundation Giving would soon be sent to club members.  We are hopeful that all will participate.  And the "Happy Dollar" tray was passed with all proceeds to be designated for Polio Plus.
Closing - Ed closed the meeting by expressing an invitation to our guests to consider joining our club, thanking everyone and of course, the Four Way Test.

Board of Directors Mtg notes  ... by Mary Giroux
Your Board of Directors met on October 6th. The following is a brief of the discussions and actions taken.
Attndees: Ed Evans,  Jay Stith,  Rosemary Mondo, Mary Giroux, Andy Stevens, Dave Lee, Ayham Boucher, Marv Langley (Rotarian/Foundation Board) and Bill Buterbaugh (Rotarian/guest)
  • Call to Order - President Ed Evans called the meeting to order at 5:30
  •  Minutes - September 2022 minutes were approved.
  • Club Finances - Marv reported on Foundation finances as of September 30, 2022.  We are in good shape according to Marv.
  • Worthy Causes - The Board approved donations to The Creamery and Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
  • Holiday Basket Dinner - The dinner will be held at the Skaneateles Country Club on December 8th.  The cost has not been determined yet due to a turkey shortage (the avian kind).  Each Club member is asked to fill a table for this dinner which benefits the local food pantries and the Outreach program to help fill their holiday needs.  The format will be a little different with a silent auction replacing the raffle.
  • Service Projects - Jay updated the Board on future projects which include the Sleep in Heavenly Peace (October), Election Day Lunches to poll workers (November), Holiday Basket Dinner (December) and Salvation Army bell ringing at Tops (December).  John Moran asked for assistance with the Salvation Army project and Rosemary Mondo graciously volunteered.
  • Meeting adjourned by Ed Evans and next meeting to be held on Thursday, November 3rd at 5:00 at The Sherwood.

It's another "don't miss" night of Fall leaves, laughter and lots of great fun, plus nutritious food insights when Kelly Springer, founder and CEO of "Kelly's Choice" creatively plans our dinner and shares with us "Healthy Eating Does Not Have to be Awful."  Invite your spouse, best friends and other guests to a great night of Rotary fellowship for them to see just how rewarding being a Rotarian can be.
