LAST WEEK - June 3rd, 2021 ... by Mary Membership/Attendance: 53 Active members with 23 attending. Guest(s): Lucas Grob from Switzerland via Zoom and John Kopley, Skaneateles neighbor. The Beginnings - After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing " America the Beautiful " an inspiration provided by Karen Price was read. President Dave welcomed everyone to the in person meeting and also welcomed Gard who was attending from North Carolina along with Gary & Ward who was attending from their homes. The Program - Tyler introduced Lucas Grob, Rotary exchange student from 2007-2008. The Lorey family hosted Lucas from Switzerland and Tyler described Lucas as his best friend. Gard related that the family has maintained strong ties with Lucas over the years, showing what a strong impact the exchange program has. Lucas related fond memories of his time in Skaneateles and the friends and relationships that he developed from his experience. He brought us up to date on his life since then which includes his advanced degrees in Food Processing Engineering. Lucas specialized in chocolate research which seems appropriate as he is from Switzerland! Lucas expressed gratitude to Rotary and to our club for sponsoring him saying that it helped to lay the foundation for the way his life has turned out. Thanks to Lucas for telling us about his life after Skaneateles. Wanted - If you have a favorite inspirational saying please send it to President Dave to be read at a meeting. The Ending: Members enjoyed delicious boxed meals from the Sherwood and libations from the Legion. We were also glad to have Bill B in attendance as he recovers from knee surgery. |
