PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by co-Pres., Mary
It was great to see everyone last evening. We have lots going on and it is great to have so many of our club members working on theses projects.
  • Food Drive - A small army of Rotarians is gathering food for the local pantries.  Ward and Gary distributed the bags this week and pick ups should be done by Saturday the 23rd.
  • Fathers Day Raffle - Plans are chugging along nicely thanks to Lee, Tyler, Lori, Terry and Craig.  Tyler shared his fantastic  video with the club.  Lots of smiles and thumbs followed.yessmiley  Our roll out of the raffle should be late next week so check your email for more information.
  • Road Clean up - Marv is organizing a road clean up for May 30th.  Again, watch for additional information in your email.
Speaker - Fellow Rotarian and virus expert, John Gilly, talked to us about COVID 19 and the treatment drug remdesivir.  John's concise explanation of how the drug works was quit enlightening.  A number of questions were asked and answered about treatments and vaccines.
It is great that even in this time of staying at home we can have so much interest and participation from our members.  Thanks to all and let's keep the momentum going!
See you this Thursday at 6:30 on Zoom!
Be well and be safe .... Mary

It was never just about the pancakes
Help us feed and support our community in another way this year
The Father's Day Pancake Breakfast has been a Skaneateles tradition for more than 50 years.  The fun event has always been about much more than enjoying breakfast and music with friends and family.
The breakfast has been the Skaneateles Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year: raising hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years to support countless community outreach and enrichment programs.
COVID-19 has changed life for all of us. For some, that change has brought hardship.  While the breakfast cannot safely be held this year, it is more important than ever for the club to raise money to support the community.
We are asking those who have supported the event in the past, AND those who may not have had a chance to partake previously, to join us in raising money to care for those in our community.
We can’t feed YOU this year, but your money can help us feed THOSE IN NEED.  All proceeds will go to local food pantries and school and community outreach meal programs.
In exchange for your contributions, you will be entered into a raffle that also directly benefits the community.  Each prize is a Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce gift certificate.  By donating, you will be helping those struggling to put food on the table – and indirectly helping local businesses that will benefit from the spending of those gift certificates.
Skaneateles is a strong community, and together we can use this lack of a gathering to virtually come together and help our community as a whole.
The Skaneateles Outreach Office is projecting a continued need of 3,440 adult meals for the month of May at a cost of over $10,000.  In addition, the 5,000+ monthly meals provided to Skaneateles area children through state and federal funds may no longer be covered when the school year ends. They plan to continue serving into June, anticipating an additional 860 adult meals per week at an approximate cost of $2,500 per week. The program may continue past the end of the school year.  If it does not, the need at the food pantry is sure to increase.
The Ecumenical Food Pantry is already experiencing high demand for its meal programs for our senior citizens.  There are many unknowns as we enter the summer months.  Will free meal programs continue? Will government support still be there?  Will we need to cover even more costs locally? We can't know for certain, but we know the needs are great.  And at Rotary, we know that we can do something about it RIGHT NOW. For that reason we are asking for your support.
Let’s be Skaneateles Strong and help our neighbors in need.
Mark your calendars for 20-26 June for an exciting opportunity to gather online with the family of Rotary for our first online convention.  Now More Than Ever, Rotary Connects the World: The 2020 Rotary Virtual Convention will join you with Rotary participants around the world during a time of unprecedented challenges.     Together, we’ll still experience the spirit of Rotary, be inspired by innovation, celebrate our resilience, and explore how clubs are addressing COVID-19. Experience Rotary in action during our Flag Ceremony, witness the power of connection during our general sessions, learn new ways to engage with Rotary during our breakout sessions, find inspiration from our global speakers, and much more.
We have never needed Rotary — and we have never needed each other — more than we do now. We hope to see you online, because Now More Than Ever, Rotary Connects the World.
