PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by co-Pres., Mary
A lot has happened and continues to happen in our great country, the United States of America. Pandemic, economic loss, and racial injustice are all in the headlines. Tomorrow is Flag Day. Our flag symbolizes our evolution as a country from 13 colonies to 50 states all united as one country "with liberty and justice for all" as stated in the Pledge of Allegiance that we recite each week. As Rotarians we are united not just under our flag but as a global community with all Rotarians to make life better for all. Happy Flag Day and to a better future ahead for all.
See you on Thursday. Mary

Our hats off and heart felt thanks to The Skaneateles Outreach, Skaneateles School District food service, and all the volunteers who have worked together during this time of need. This is indeed an organization of love and compassion to our community and truly "Service Above Self"
Let’s give it the final Pancake Breakfast push!
Rotary over the top in final days ... by Lori
As we head into the final stretch, we are asking Rotarians to promote the fundraiser with the same vigor that you would sell tickets to the Father’s Day breakfast. Without flipping pancakes, we can show how Rotary supports the community.
We have topped the initial $10,000 goal at more than $11,300. We are hoping to see that number continue to rise to meet or exceed what we would raise in a year without COVID-19.
So far, we have 100 donors – so there are a lot more people out there who would normally buy tickets to the breakfast. Let’s reach out to them! Of our 100 donors, 33 are from our own club. THANK YOU!
If you would prefer to write a check: Write checks to the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation (with “feed the community” in the memo) and mail to P.O. Box 316.
Choose a donation amount, or create your own amount. At checkout, watch for the tip option and delete if you choose. This is a free service that will attempt to earn money by asking for a tip. Feel free, but please know that the tips do not count toward fundraising.
NOTICE - Membership Proposal
Mary Giroux has submitted Rosemary Mondo's application for the membership to the BOD, which as approved on June 8th. Rosemary's occupation is Wellness/Travel and she resides in Skaneateles. She has attended a number of our meetings over the past few months and participated in the Highway cleanup project. Mary is Rosemary's sponsor. If there are no objections by the membership, submitted in writing to the club Secretary by June 21st, she will be eligible to be inducted into our membership, once she have received sufficient Rotary introduction information, following that date.
Meal program and Covid 19 relief efforts .... by Jacque McConnaghy
Just over 20,000 meals served to date, 7,400 adult meals served. Cost to Outreach thru May 31st was $19,118. Our cost is $6.00 per day for the adults, children are covered by the school and state. Anticipated bill for the month of June will be approximately $10,000.
250 Gift cards valued at $9,000 purchased by Outreach to the following places:
Cedar House, Valentine’s, Sherwood Inn, Doug’s, Johnny’s Angels, Moro’s Kitchen, Mike’s Pizza, Skaneateles Bakery, Willow Glen, Red Rooster, Tops and Byrne Dairy. These were given to the families receiving the meals from the school.
10 gift cards to local restaurants donated totaling $200
55-pint bottles and 36 4-ounce spray bottles of hand sanitizer from Last Shot given out with meals, some donated and the rest purchased cost is $210.
I have reached out to many of the clients we assisted during the past year to check in and see how all are doing - About 65% of the families have been receiving the meals, Most families have received the stimulus check, directed the remaining to the webpage to check where it is or an alternative way to qualify as some are not required to file taxes.
The last day for the meal program will be June 26th. I have given the school flyers with information for where clients can go for further assistance.
SNAP program, Meals on Wheels, Skaneateles Ecumenical Food Pantry, Skaneateles Outreach along with county agencies that could help.
During this time, I have also helped members of the community with the following basic needs, rent, utility bills, clothing and shoes for children, gas cards.

Cube in a Cube .... wood puzzle by Ward
Last week, Ward presented the members with a challenge of how he was able to create a wooden cube with a second cube trapped inside. There you two very close answers. Craig suggested a Forstner bit was used. Cheryl, via subsequent email and with the help of here friend Brain, suggested a mortise drill and a very sharp chisel. Craig's answer would have been dead on, it he had included the use of a very sharp and thin blade (carving knife). Cheryl/Brian's answer would have worked as well. There are multiple methods. Actually, I used two sizes of Forstner bits and a carving knife. Twas accomplished with the help of his lathe. Kudos to Craig, Cheryl and Brian. Ward owes each a wood shop gift once we are no longer social distancing.
