PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Bill Conole
DISTRICT CELEBRATION: PE Doug Powell wrote eloquently about this year’s District Conference in beautiful Lake Placid. Cathy & Doug’s House of Friendship display was by far the most beautiful setup in the House Of Friendship. Kudos to DG Marv Joslyn. Marv & his wife, Janet, made this year’s conference lively & fun. At several junctures in the conference we sang Neil Diamond songs “Sweet Caroline” & “Song Sung Blue" & other songs. When I first joined Rotary, clubs sung in every meeting. Each club had a “Rotary Songbook”. About twenty years ago a song copyright dispute brought a stop to the singing. Now that this dispute has subsided, I believe clubs should consider singing again. Last year’s District Conference in Corning, NY was as enjoyable as this year’s District Conference so I urge all of our members to please consider going to our next District Conference in nearby Oswego, NY in October.
2019 PANCAKE SKANEATELES ROTARY CLUB FATHERS’ DAY PANCAKE BREAKFAST is rapidly approaching. As Robin Jowaisas & John Moran stress that members selling all of their tickets is absolutely critical to making the breakfast a financial success.
CLUB’S FUTURE DIRECTION is a concern shared by all of us. Two options are being considered. The first is to return to “Rotary Basics”. This formula expounded by many long term Rotarians worked well for almost a century. Now because of the changing times, many clubs are now considering a second option that downplays meeting attendance & emphasizes flexibility & connecting to the communities. Our club is considering both approaches. In the coming months we will continue to study these options.

The Skaneateles Rotary Club sponsored, collected, packed and shipped another pallet of books for the CNY Books for the World project. The books for this pallet were primary gleaned from the State Street & Middle School libraries and from Smiles of Skaneateles dental office, collection box. This brings the total of 40 pallets of books sponsored and/or shipped from Skaneateles rotarians in the past 10 years. That's a lot of books going to the children of the world. WHAT's in a WORD? Nurse - to look after carefully so as to provide growth, encouragement, etc.
Sad will be the day when the American people forget their traditions and their history, and no longer remember that the country they love, the institutions they cherish, and the freedom they hope to preserve, were born from the throes of armed resistance to tyranny, and nursed in the rugged arms of fearless men. .......
