PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Doug Powell
Hello all!
The summer is starting to wane. It is time to finalize our plans to encourage membership.
Could we all please try to make the meeting— We will be inducting a new member (Terry McCormick) and hold a general assembly for club updates, next Thursday, August 29?
Cathy and I also look forward to serving clams and corn at the upcoming Skaneateles Fireman’s Field Days. We should all attend and support our fine local firemen and try to buy a few beers, as well. I’ll paraphrase a sign above their booth at the field days. It says: Sure, our beer is a little more expensive, but when you call in need, we’re there. Our collegial relationship is very important to us.
Other upcoming issues will be the meeting schedule and continuing to do small service projects monthly. I encourage all members to envision a project and I will make every effort to assist in their completion.
Enjoy the rest of the summer.
Let's Plan a World Polio Day Event
.. attract new members by Letting our Lite Shine ... by Ward
World Polio Day is October 24th. Now’s the time to start planning a Polio Day event in our community to raise the awareness of the need to eradicate Polio once and for all, and to our Skaneateles community know of Rotary's continued commitment toward the goal. Remove the basket from over Rotary's candle and "let it shine" so others may want to join us in our quest to make a better world through our; world health, water & sanitation, education & literacy, and economic & community development initiatives.
We can find resources to help us plan and promote our event, including a sample press release and social media messages and graphics, in theWorld Polio Day Toolkit
Last year, Rotarians hosted more the 4,000 World Polio Day events in 90 countries. Let's plan an event in our Skaneateles community know of Rotary's continued commitment to our world community.
LAST WEEK... by Mary Giroux
The Beginnings:
Guests - Bill Conole opened the meeting by introducing our guests: Michelle Bowers, Publisher of the Auburn Citizen, Ron Bildstein, a fellow Rotarian from the Syracuse Sunrise Rotary Club and Zack Ford, visiting guest.
Club Scholarship - Bill read a thank you note from Noah Smith, recipient of our Club's scholarship for 2019.
Coming Events - Bill also reminded us about RLI on September 28th at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill schools, the District Conference on October 19th in Oswego and the upcoming Skaneateles Firemen's Field Days on Labor Day weekend.
Syracuse SR Rotary Raffle - Ron Bildstein told us about their club's Summer Sizzle Raffle to benefit the Kara Fund which provides for needs of families with a seriously ill child. Raffle tickets were available for purchase which many of our members took advantage of. Good Luck!
The Program - Michelle Bowers, Publisher of the Auburn Citizen told us about her extensive career in the newspaper publishing business working at the Syracuse Post Standard, the Syracuse New Times, the Watertown Daily Times and now the Auburn Citizen. Michelle reminded us of the importance of supporting our local press through either printed or digital subscription or advertising services. The local press provides us with important news about our communities and their survival depends on patrons. Michelle described the Auburn Citizen as an "all encompassing media solution company."
