PRESIDENT'S CORNER ... by Prez Bill
Greetings, Skantarians! Greetings,  New friends, old friends this week. We inducted yet another new member (hats off to Amy Tormey and Gard Lorey), were treated to a great presentation by a recent inductee and were visited by a past Rotary Exchange Student from Brazil and her husband. A very dynamic evening, not to mention there was cake as well! We are rolling up on our June 1 outing to NBT Stadium to catch a Chiefs game with the DeWitt Rotary Club; if you are interested in attending, please let me know. Hope one and all are selling their pancake breakfast tickets apace. Good luck and see you next Thursday. Thank you.
LAST WEEK: .... by Bill Conole
Former Exchange Student  - President Bill introduced a visiting former exchange and her husband from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Ana Ligia Barbosa de Carvalho e Silva proudly spoke about her experience as an exchange student in 1984-85. She worked at the Pancake Breakfast and still has the Rotary apron she worn at the event.
Ana cherishes her time in Skaneateles. She warmly spoke about her host families, the Benoits, the Egerts & the Richardsons. Ana is a lawyer & is currently studying for her doctorate in applied linguistics. Ana's husband Pedro is a Colonel Brazil's Air Force and is an flight instructor in Brazil's Air Force Academy.
Ana urged everyone to support Rotary's Exchange Student Program. Ana passionately proclaimed that more than ever our world needs the peace & understanding that Rotary's exchange student program fosters.
Walk for Cancer - Our exchange student, Elisa, from France asked our members to contribute to an exchange student fund raising effort to combat cancer.  Our Exchange Students will be participating is a Walk for Cancer in Oneida this weekend.
I Found It "pen"Ward awarded a handcrafted pen to sharp eyed, Roberta Williams for finding the “I Found It!” in the newsletter this week.
New Member Induction -  Membership Chair, Amy Tormey, formally inducted Chris Peteras into Rotary. Amy asked Chris' sponsor, Gard Lorey, to present Chris with his Rotary Pin. Amy presented Chis with Rotary Plaque, hat & apron. Amy urged Chris to share the gift of Rotary with his friends.
Classification Talk - New member, Marvin Langley presented an informative & warm "classification talk". Marvin has lived in Skaneateles since 1967 & is a proud graduate of SCHS.  Marvin & his wife met while they in college in Lehigh University. Marvin detailed his career as a materials management engineer for Goulds Pumps & Braun Washers. Marv is proud of his two grown sons. His older son is a doctor in Cortland and will soon be moving to Skaneateles. Now that he is retired Marvin is ready & eager to serve our community through Rotary.

COUNTING DOWN OF PANCAKES & Tasks Schedule - While the annual Fathers Day Pancake Breakfast is but month away, it is time to save the date on our calendars. Fathers Day this year is June 18th, so please mark that date in ink on your calendar, as well as the Friday AM and Saturday AM before for set-up, and Monday AM afterwards for tear down. This year will mark our 49th consecutive year holding our Club's biggest fund raising event, and we need every Rotarian to participate to insure its continued success!
Don't miss the Sales Kickoff this Thursday.

eClubs - TRY THEM, YOU'LL LIKE THEM - For those of us the want to stay in touch with Rotary but are unable to make all of our club meetings, a Rotary eClub is a great option.  They are a source of excellent information, project ideas, a window into Rotary activities around the world, and they qualify for an attendance make-ups.  You can find time by going to the RI website's Club Finder, which you can find at the top of site's home page, or access direct at; https://www.rotary.org/en/search/club-finder   I have visited many eClubs when I am at our condo in Cedar Key, Fl (kinda remote to any Rotary Club).  One of my favorites, and very complete eClub is the; Rotary eClub of Southwest USA at: http://www.recswusa.org/  .  I would be interested in hearing from other Skaneateles club members, about the eClubs that you explore.  Try Them, You'll Like Them!
