PRESIDENT'S CORNER ... by Prez Bill
Greetings, Skantarians! Another fantastic Pancake Breakfast in the books! I cannot thank all of you and so many in the community enough for stepping up. So much prep and take down for a day that absolutely flies by. Final numbers are still being calculated but we should start the year with a strong financial base.
This past Thursday we were treated to an outstanding speech by Steve Woodard, Director of Career and Technical Education detailing what services and opportunities our BOCES provides. A great program that provides solid advantages to our youth and regional businesses.
Enjoy the weather and a great weekend! Thank you.
LAST WEEK: .... by Bill Conole
The Beginings
Pancake Breakfast Thanks - Prior to dinner Pancake Breakfast Chair Mary Giroux warmly thanked our members & the many volunteers who pitched in to make our 2017 Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast a great success.  Mary reminded everybody to please send their ticket money Kathy Crelot or to Chuck O’Neil as soon as possible (checks to be make out to: The Skaneateles Rotary Foundation)
Visitarian - President Bill introduced Alice Howard a Rotarian from of the Lowcountry RC in Beaufort, SC. Alice said the Beaufort Rotary Club is about the same size as our club.  She traded banners with Prez Bill ... see banner below.
Condolences -  Roy McDonald mentioned that Dave Piper’s mom, age 99, passed away last week.
The Program
Cayuga Onondaga BOCES - Bill Conole introduced our speaker Steve Woodward, Director of Adult, Alternative & Career & Technical for the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Program.  Steve passionately described how BOCES is providing students with training for good paying jobs & for solid career building opportunities.
Today’s BOCES Programs are vastly improved from the old days of “vocational training”. BOCES offers a large array of educational and training programs that provide students with skills that will enable them to enter the job market fully trained and prepared for the modern world. BOCES offers programs in Automotive Technology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Heavy Equipment Repair and Operation and Graphic Design & New Media just to cite a few. These programs are designed to respond career fields where there is a high demand for qualified employees. BOCES trains their students for the work world by stressing punctuality, proper attire and appearance and how to properly meet & interact with employers.
Currently Cayuga Onondaga BOCES serves 9 high schools –7 in Cayuga County and 2 in Onondaga County [including Skaneateles High School]. Over 600 students are enrolled in the Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Program.
In closing Steve invited our club to have a meeting in the BOCES Center in Auburn. The Culinary Arts students will prepare will prepare dinner for our club & we will have a chance to meet some students.

50/50 - Was won by Duane Weaver. The elusive Queen of Spades remains concealed in the shrinking deck of cards.

SAVE THE DATE  .... by Ward Vuillemot
On Sunday, Jul 23, 2017 at 2 PM, the Skaneateles Rotarians and friends will be selecting and packing children's and reference books at the Annual Skaneteles Library book sales, located next to the Village Hall, in the old fire barn.  Once the book sales is over at 2 PM, we will be permitted to glean the books for the CNY Books for the World project.  The selected books will eventually make their way to the children in 3rd world countries via the Rotarian BFTW project.  The gleaning and packing typically takes from one to two hours.  See ye there!
