Rotary shines brightly
One more week to give!
COVID-19 has not dampened our ability to give to others this holiday season. Thanks to many Rotarians and community members, our Holiday Food Basket Virtual Fundraiser is doing well, according to Committee Chair Roberta Williams.
“Many Rotarians have given, and many of our past donor-friends have given as well,” she said.  We have ONE MORE WEEK to donate and/or to ask other friends and community members to give.
Let’s make this a banner year of giving, to help families during a particularly difficult time.
Funds will be divided between the Skaneateles Food Pantry, the Spafford Food Pantry, and Skaneateles Outreach.

2020 RING THE BELL ... by John
It continues to be a difficult year for the Salvation Army, and other providers of critical services, and it is critical that we start planning our annual Bell Ringing project now so that we are staffed and ready to ring-n-ding at Tops during this Holiday season.   So .... please review the schedule, which can be found on our WEBSITE by going the the Site Pages on the left side of the Home page, or CLICK HEREIf you have not yet had an opportunity to sign-up for a time slot, contact Ed Evans at 315-554-8109 [home] or 425-503-9044 [cell]. Feel free to leave a message about your desired time if he does not pick up. Or e-mail him eae3972@aol.com.  Ed will confirm all assignments.
A wonderful project that supports those in our community in need .... and .... to meet and greet your Skaneateles friends, while providing Service Above Self in our community.
LAST WEEK - Dec 10, 2020 ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 51 Active members, 18 Attending
Guests:  John Tumino, speaker and Mike Tierney
The beginnings  President Dave welcomed our guests John Tumino (speaker from In My Father's Kitchen) and Mike Tierney (potential new member).  After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance the following were updates on current club projects:
  • Roberta thanked everyone for their efforts in recruiting participants in the club's Holiday Basket fundraiser.  To date there have been 49 non Rotarian donors and 35 Rotarian donors.  The event ends on December 18th so please continue to invite friends, neighbors, families and co workers to this virtual event.  Proceeds will be donated to the Skaneateles and Spafford food pantries and Skaneateles Outreach.
  • John Moran updated us on the Salvation Army Kettle schedule.  Please let John know if you can fill any of the empty slots.
The program  Mary Introduced John Tumino, speaker and founder of In My Father's Kitchen.  John and his wife Leigh-Ann founded In My Father's Kitchen (IMFK) in 2011 after John's encounter with a homeless man.  Reaching out to this person who felt unseen spurred John to begin an outreach to homeless individuals in the City of Syracuse.  Each person's story and needs are unique and IMFK seeks to build a trusting relationship to eventually assist in transition to a stable home.  IMFK does this by providing basics including food, clothing, tutoring, and transportation.  Most importantly they provide friendship which gives each individual value and dignity.  IMFK has partnered with SUNY Upstate's Dr.Lehmann to provide medical care.  The "Hire Ground" program is a partnership with the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County to provide an opportunity for paid day labor and two meals.  A shelter home for women is currently in the works to help women who are without a home.    John answered a number of questions from members.  When asked "How can we help?"  John said that they are currently in need of winter coats and gloves.  Additional information about IMFK can be found at www.inmyfatherskitchen.org.  In My Father's Kitchen Pasta Sauce is available at the Vermont Green Mountain Specialty shop in the village, a good way to support IMFK as well as a local business!
The ending Alice led us in the Four Way Test.  See you next week which will be our last meeting before Christmas and New Years break.
