Work and planning for the 50th pancake breakfast is ramping up. Only ten short weeks til the big event. It's not too early t start recruiting volunteers.

CHECK PRESENTATION:
Amy Tormey presented generous check to Me Melina Carncicelli of the 1st Amendment 1st Vote Organization. The check Amy presented represented a portion of the proceeds from our very successful Women’s Day Dinner. Melina will be making a presentation on the 1st Amendment, 1st Vote program on May 24th.

Farewell to Dale Zabel—President Mary read a warm tribute to longtime club member Dale Zabel. Dale is moving to Pennslyvania . For the past two decades Dale has actively served our club & our community. Dale will be missed by all.

THE PROGRAM - Habitat for Humanity
Bill Conole introduced our speaker Sarah Allen. Sarah grew up in Baldwinsville. After graduating from Tampa University Sarah returned to CNY & volunteered for AmeriCorps to serve as a Community Outreach Worker for Habitat for Humanity. Sarah opened her presentation by noting that Habitat for Humanity’s motto is to “lend a hand up, not a hand out”. Through volunteer labor & donations of money, Syracuse Habitat for Humanity homes are sold to qualifying applicants at no profit & are financed with no interest, 30 year loans. This enables people who would not otherwise qualify for a mortgage due to income become 1st time homeowners.
Syracuse Habitat for Humanity hosts 3 Theme Builds: 1- Veterans Build for US Veterans & their families. 2 -Women Build –brings women together to plan & construct a simple decent home. 3- Interfaith Build-a partnership of faith communities that join together to fund & build a house for a local family. Over the past few decades Habitat for Humanity has built more than 70 homes in the Syracuse area.
Sarah responded to several questions from our members.
50/50 - Was won by Cathy Powell, which elicited huzzahs from our members because Cathy’s husband Doug selected Cathy’s winning ticket. In spite of this Cathy did not draw the Queen of Spades.
