SKANEATELES ROTARY WELCOMES
Terry McCormick as their Newest Member
Pledging to "go forth and promote positive change in the world", Terry McCormick joined the Skaneateles Rotary Club on Thursday, August 29. He was inducted by Amy Tormey, membership chairperson, assisted by club president, Doug Powell and sponsored by Ward Vuillemot. McCormick originally joined Rotary in 2016 and is a past member in good standing of the University Rotary Club in Minneapolis and the Alexandria Va. Rotary Club.
We look forward to sharing Terry's Rotary experiences and a vital addition to out club.

PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Doug Powell
Cathy and I had the honor of helping out the Skaneateles Firemen at their field days over the weekend. We served corn and clams. We very much enjoyed the crowds, food, field days, music, and, made the acquaintance of many of the firemen and American Legionaires. This was a slice of Americana that is so special to our small town. It propels us to do service. We live in a town where there are so many organizations trying to serve, but what distinguishes the Rotary is our international service. We are so close to eradicating Polio. We do dams and other water projects internationally. We do books for the world and many others. Along with membership initiatives, this year, let’s think of creative ways to do service locally and internationally. We live in a continually shrinking world where what we do does affect the rest of the ecosystems, political systems, and economies. Again, I was impressed with a sign hanging above the firemen’s beer and wine concession. It read: “You might find cheaper beer at the store, but don’t call them when your house is burning!” and “Your support helps us help you.”
Everyone knows what the fire departments do. We know how to call for them. Let’s make our Rotary as commonly known about. We look for every opportunity to be of service to be noticed, write an article for the paper, be friendly and invite a neighbor to an event or just talk up and be proud to be a Rotarian.
Bottle Stopper Challenge
As an incentive for Skaneateles Rotarians to visit other Rotary clubs to explore new ideas of community service and to meet new Rotary friends, Ward has offered to supply a hand-crafted bottle stopper, topped with an RI pin insert, to each member who visits four different District 7150 clubs, or one club outside of our district any place in our world. (limited to one stopper per member and offer ends June 30, 2020)
Blueberry preserves - President Doug opened the meeting by presenting Dana Coye with a "welcome back" jar of homemade blueberry preserves prepared by Cathy Powell. Throughout the dinner hour those sitting at Dana's table eyed the jar jealously!
Guest introduction - Bill Buterbaugh introduced guest Andy Stevens who recently moved to the village from Homer. Andy was a Homer Rotarian. It was great to have Andy at our meeting.
Welcome/Thankyou Picnic - is September 12th at St. James. Rotarians are asked to bring an appetizer to share and be sure to invite all of our Pancake Breakfast Volunteers. (see notice above)
Club Directories - were distributed by Ward.
World Polio Day - is coming up on October 24th and President Doug asked for suggestions from club members for a special recognition of the day.
Attendance requirement - was discussedand Ward passed on the good news that make ups can be applied at any time of the year now. See this year's Club Directory for Attendance procedures.
The Program
New Member Induction - A huge "Welcome" to our newest member, Terry McCormack. Terry was officially inducted to our club with Amy Tormey officiating. Terry hails from Skaneateles originally but most recently lived in Virginia and was a member of the local Rotary Club. Amy reminded us all of how special it is to be a Rotarian and of our avenues of service.

2019-20 Club Directories distributed
The new and updated 2019-20 Skaneateles Rotary Club directories were distributed by Ward at our meeting last evening. The BOD made the decision not to mail this year. Therefore, if you were not in attendance for the distribution, you will be receiving your copy from a fellow Rotarian who volunteered to hand deliver it to you.
You will continue to receive quarterly updated membership listings with contact information via email on a quarterly basis.
Oops, one change - Mark up your copies with Amy Tormey’s updated email: amy.a.tormey@gmail.com
Remember, the contact information is club-confidential and not to be shared for any commercial or political purposes.
eClubs - TRY THEM, YOU'LL LIKE THEM - For those of us the want to stay in touch with Rotary but are unable to make all of our club meetings, a Rotary eClub is a great option. They are a source of excellent information, project ideas, a window into Rotary activities around the world, and they qualify for an attendance make-ups. You can find time by going to the RI website's Club Finder, which you can find at the top of site's home page, or access direct at; https://www.rotary.org/en/search/club-finder I have visited many eClubs when I am at our condo in Cedar Key, Fl (kinda remote to any Rotary Club). One of my favorites, and very complete eClub is the; Rotary eClub of Southwest USA at: http://www.recswusa.org/ . I would be interested in hearing from other Skaneateles club members, about the eClubs that you explore. Try Them, You'll Like Them!
