Last WEEK Feb 17, 2022  ... by Bill Conole..
Membership/Attendance - 43 Active Members- 8 members attending.
Guests -John Paddock (Speaker), Nancy Williams and Umesh & Viji Patil
The Beginnings - President Terry called the meeting to order & led the Inn & zoom attendees in the Pledge.
The Program - Operation Pineapple/Honor The Promise - Afghanistan and those we need to extract.
Zac Lois, retired Army Captain & currently an educator, gave a detailed presentation on Operation Pineapple/Honor in an interview conducted by John Paddock (Admiral USN Ret, SSR Club).
As a Special Operations Officer with the US Army Zac served two tours in Afghanistan. During those combat tours Zac developed a deep appreciation for the Afghani, Army personnel who aided our army serving as translators.  After leaving the Army Zac became an educator through a program called Operation Socrates. This program helps Army veterans become teachers. Zac is currently a teacher in the Fowler Middle School in Syracuse.
When Zac returned to the US, he became concerned about the plight of the Afghan Army translators struggling to get of Afghanistan. Zac joined other veterans in Operation Pineapple/Honor. This program’s mission is to safely bring these translators & allies to the US & to help them relocate here with housing & employment. Zac cited several local groups who are actively aiding in this effort. Catholic Charities, Clear Path For Veterans are two groups actively working to relocate these translators. Our US bureaucracy is often difficult & cumbersome to work with. So far Zac & his group has experienced good success relocating several Afghan Translators here. Zac responded to several questions. Zac noted that these translators already have very good English language skills. These Afghanis are eager to work & will make excellent US citizens. Zac urged our club & other Rotary clubs in CNY to join Operation Pineapple/Honor’s efforts.
President Terry thanked John Paddock for introducing us to Zac & for bringing us this excellent & timely program.

The Ending - Pres. Terry led us in the Rotarian 4-Way Test

... from DG Dana's announcement
Your District 7150 DGND Nominating Committee, IPDG Cheryl Matt, Chair, has selected Baldwinsville Rotarian Lizzy Martin as the District Governor Nominee Designate for the current 2021-22 Rotary year.  Lizzy joins a class of 529 DGNDs in the Rotary world who are on a leadership track to serve as District Governor during the 2024-25 Rotary year. Lizzy joined Rotary IN 2009  at the age of 25, upon the urging of her granddad, who was a Past District Governor in District 7170 (Ithaca Rotary Club).
