Rotarian Peter Duenkelsbuehler
passed away in August
With great sadness we must report that Peter Duenkelsbuehler, a long time Rotarian since 1964 passed away in August.  Peter has been unable to attend meetings for a number years due to health issues.  Those of us who knew Peter, remember him and a kind, carrying and gentle person who was a dedicated Steward of the environment with a passion for the nature around him.  I first met Peter in the mid 80's when he owned and operated a fallow deer farm near New Hope Mills, and through him, I became a close acquaintance of a long time friend of his during my year's stay Hechingen, Germany.  Peter is survived by his wife Mari Theres.  He will be missed by all of us who knew him. .....by  Ward
PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Doug Powell
Cathy and I are in hot and sunny Texas and will be back for the meeting Thursday 10/17. The area west of Houston is green, lush, and not at all like the deserts of the southwest.
I would like to thank Bill Conole for all his hard work in keeping the schedule of speakers going. This has been a lot of work and going back and forth mixing and matching schedules. I have been very pleased with the variety and content of the talks. I invite anyone who has any suggestions as to proposed speakers to let Bill know.
We will have three new members shortly. The club members have been finding new good prospects and we certainly want to thank them and encourage all members to look to their neighbors and co-workers to invite.
Upcoming events include the dictionary and thesaurus give away at the school. Haunted hallways is on 10/31 when we will have no meeting at the Sherwood.
Also upcoming is the 10/19 district conference in Oswego. Many plan to attend. The setting is gorgeous Oswego. Join us.
WHAT's in a WORD? Galumph - describes a person moving very clumsily. i.e. Ward with his cane.
LAST WEEK ... by Mary Giroux
Club Assembly -
President Doug Powell opened the meeting by introducing our guests and future club members:  Tyler Lorey and Jay Stith.  The following items were covered at our club assembly meeting:
  • Shelter Box thank you for our club's purchase of a Shelter Box to aid in the Dorian aftermath in the Bahamas.
  • Haunted Hallways:  Since Halloween is on a Thursday this year there will be no regular club meeting so that Rotarians can either assist with Haunted Hallways at the HS Commons or stay home and greet witches and goblins.
  • October 19th is the District Conference in Oswego.  Our exchange students are in need of a ride home on Sunday morning.  Please let Karen Price or Gard Lorey know if you can help.
  • October 24th is "World Polio Eradication Day".  John Gilly from the sunshine Rotary Club will speak about polio.
  • It was with sadness that Peter Duenkelbuehler's passing in August of this year was noted.  Peter was a member of the club for 55 years.
  • Cathy and Doug Powell are organizing a hat, mitten, coat and boot drive.  Please plan on making any donations to this effort by November 15th.  Details to follow.
  • Club Programs - Robin & Craig made a plea to include more local governance  & infrastructure updates & projects in our programing.  It was pointed out that club members should be active in recruiting speakers that they feel would be of interest and coordinate that effort with our program chair, Bill Conole.
  • At the club Board meeting Terry McCormack was appointed to fill the vacant 2019-2021 term.
  • President Doug announced that Jay Stith, Tyler Lorey & Ed Evans applications for membership were accepted by the Board..

Meet "Rotary"
On Wednesday, Oct. 9th. 30+ Rotarians from the; Skaneateles, Skaneateles SR, Chittenango, Cazenovia, Fulton Noon, Baldwinsville and Dewitt Clubs gathered at the Clear Path for Veterans facility in Chittenango to meet "Rotary", a little boy Labrador retriever pup that was donated through a multi-club district grant.  The gran, written and managed by Skaneateles Rotarian, Mary Giroux, was for $11,000 which covers the cost of the puppy's development program.  This program raises and trains service dogs which are then provided to qualified veterans at to cost to enhance their lives.  Pictured, is Mary introducing "Rotary".
