PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
Last evening Deb Glisson, fellow Rotarian, told us about a program that will bring over 400 youths to the Syracuse area to make much needed  repairs to homes within a 30 mile radius of Syracuse for members of our CNY community that do not have the means to do the repairs themselves.  Deb described how this program is an eye opener for young people leading to a deeper understanding and a more caring attitude toward those not as fortunate.  Thank you Deb and thank you Lee Bennett for bringing this to our club.
Only 58 more days til the Pancake Breakfast!  Hopefully it will not be cancelled due to snow.
I'll see you in two weeks as I am off to warmer and sunnier weather.....see you in May!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"The laziest man I ever met put popcorn in his pancakes so that they would flip over by themselves." .... W.C. Fields
LAST WEEK: .... by Bill Conole
THE BEGINNINGS
District Conference - President Mary encouraged members to go the District Conference on April 27-29 in Corning , New York.
Buddy Bench - Amy Tormey presented a request from the State Street School’s counselor Abbie Paine for funds needed to purchase a Buddy Bench. This is part of the school’s anti-bulling awareness program. The amount requested is $300. Mary noted that since we do not have a board meeting until May, she will ask for a board vote , via e-mail, on this request for $300.
PolioStoppers - To date this year, Ward has raised over $3400 for Polio Plus by selling his handcrafted, beautiful wine stoppers for $100.  That's a total of $7,900 in past two years.  Ward will keep his generous offer open a while longer. Kudos to Ward raising so much money for Polio Plus. (see below)
Thank you notes - Mary read thank you notes the Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce for our support of the Easter Egg Hunt & from Melina Carnicelli for the Rotary check she received for the 1stAmendment/1stVote Program. Melina will be presenting a program on this program on May 24th.
Paul Harris’s 150th Birthday — Members sung a hearty Happy Birthday to Rotary’s founder Paul Harris.
THE PROGRAM - Work Camp
Bill Conole introduced our speaker Past District Governor Deb Glisson. Deb is currently serving as the District Membership Chair. Before beginning her presentation Deb joined Mary in encouraging members to attend our District Conference. Deb also encouraged new members & all memebers to attend the Rotary Leadership Institute which will be held in VVS on September 22nd.
Deb opened her presentation by explaining that the mission of the Work Camp Program is to bring over 400 young people to the Syracuse area to make much needed repairs to homes within a 30 mile radius of Syracuse. The research on our local poverty is staggering. The many positives of the Work Camp Program are reaped by the students, the residents & ultimately the CNY society as a whole. I keeping with our Rotary motto by participating in the Work Camp Program the students learn that serving others & helping others is the best way to live our lives. The Work Camp program instills in these young students how important it is for all of us to care for each other. Each year the Work Camp costs about $40,000 to feed & to transport volunteers, & to pay for materials used in improving homes in the inner city& poor rural areas. To date the Work Camp Program has raised $37,000. Deb asked our club to make a contribution to this worthy cause. By doing so, our club will be joining the many other Rotary Clubs in our district who have made contributions to the Work Camp Program.
50/50 - Was won by John Moran. On the 1stdraw of the new deck, John Moran did not draw the queen of spades.
Guests -  Karine Baudet, friend of Roberta Williams, and PDG Deb Glisson, or speaker

Question: Why is our pancake breakfast always held on Father's Day?
Answer:  50 years of tradition where our current and returning residents gather to celebrate family and Spring in our beautify Fingerlakes community.
WORLD IMMUNIZATION WEEK, 24-30 April, is a great opportunity to help spread the word on how immunization is critical to preventing and ending diseases, like polio.  You can participate by making a donation to The Rotary Foundation, PolioPlus program, and as a bonus; get in on Ward's PolioStopper offer.
Such a Deal! - Ward if offering each District 7150 Rotarian a hand crafted Bottle Stopper with a Rotary Logo inset for a new donation of $100 or more to the Rotary Foundation, allocated to PolioPlus.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!: As an extra incentive to Skaneateles Rotarians,(both Skaneateles evening and Sunrise club members) Ward will also transfer 100 of his PHF points to the contribution Skaneateles Rotarian’s  PHF account, adding an extra 100 points to their contribution points.  Such a Deal !
HOW TO:  To qualify for this offer, simply make out your check to The Rotary Foundation for $100 or more, and write Polio Plus in the memo section of the check.  Send the check to Bill Buterbaugh or notify Ward direct that you have made the contribution  and your beautiful bottle stopper will be delivered to you, and the TRF Point transfer will occur shortly thereafter.
Such a Deal .... Such a Worthy Cause
