DID YOU KNOW - How did Skaneateles get its name?
The name is from the Iroquois term for the adjacent Skaneateles Lake, which means "long lake." The town is on the western border of the county and includes a village, also named Skaneateles.
PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Doug Powell
We had two excellent speakers Thursday evening. We varied our usual time to accommodate them both. This proved to be no problem with time to spare! John Gilley presented the St. James’ Church master series where community involvement is a key ingredient in the success of the talks. Next Wednesday at the church, the topic will be global warming and discussants will approach the topic from various angles. Scientific to political, personal to societal, local to national. Dawn Textera, the vice commander of the American Legion Post continued, introducing the post to members. The thrust of the presentation had to do with the local activities of the post. This is not your father’s or grandfather’s drinking hole. The capital improvements undertaken and in the planning stages have transformed the post into a local venue while the emphasis on outreach and involvement of veterans on a local and national level continues to provide veterans with needed services. On another note, It’s Hunting Season! Sitting in my tree stand, I enjoyed the beauty of the fall leaves. I missed a nice 4 point buck, but with any luck…
