Roty is Growing Up Quickly .... by Mary Giroux
"Rotary", also known as "Roty" is growing up quickly!  He is about 5 months old and progressing nicely with his training.  He has gone on a number of "field trips" to Lemoyne College, Target, Rosamond Gifford Zoo and the Dickens Festival in Skaneateles.  Some of the cues he has learned so far include:  Sit, Down, Stay, Place, Under, Let's go and Leave it.  Each week he does better and better!  Attached are two pictures of "Roty", the first is of him practicing his "Place-Down-Stay" cue sequence.  The second is of him getting to know the alpacas at the zoo.
Thanks to all of your clubs for sponsoring  "Rotary" with our multi club grant.  He will mature into a companion and helper for a Veteran in need. (Skaneateles, Skaneateles Sunrise, Chittenango, Cazenovia, Fulton Noon, Baldwinsville and Dewitt Clubs.  Altogether, with a District match, the grant totals $11,000 and will benefit the Clear Path for Veterans puppy development program.
Salvation Army Bell Ringers Thanks & Results
A great big Thanks to our many Rotarians, friends and family members who Rang the Bell for The Salvation Army at the Skaneateles TOPS Market these past few weeks.  A good time greeting neighbors and friends, and most of all, satisfaction in contributing to the support of those in need in our community.  Also, a large vote of thanks to John Moran and his team of Christmas Elfs for coordinating the project, once again this year.
The initial tally of contributions dropped in the bucket is $1,827 were turned over to the Chamber of Commerce on Christmas Eve, which will go to the Salvation Army.  But wait, wait; there's still more.... Marv is still counting the buckets of loose change, which will add to the 2019 total.

Rotary Peace Fellowship Programs
Each year, Rotary awards up to 100 fully funded fellowships for dedicated leaders from around the world to study at one of our peace centers.
Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the fellows into experienced and effective catalysts for peace. The fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses.
In just over a decade, the Rotary Peace Centers have trained more than 1,200 fellows. Many of them now serve as leaders at international organizations or have started their own foundations.
Check out the Rotary Peace Map to see where our alumni are fostering peace around the world.
Our fellowships
Each year, The Rotary Foundation awards up to 50 fellowships for master’s degrees and 50 for certificate studies at premier universities.
  • Master’s degree programs: Accepted candidates study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body. The program lasts 15 to 24 months and includes a 2-3 month field study, which participants design themselves.
  • Professional development certificate program: Experienced leaders gain practical tools for promoting peace and international development during an intensive, 3- month program, which includes 3 weeks of field study and peer learning opportunities with a diverse group.
