Polio Eradication Update - Ward reported the RI RF Trusty for Polio Eradication, Michael McGovern announced at the Rochester Eastern City Dinner last week that; there and be NO NEW polio cases reported on the continent of Africa in the past 12 months, and only 50 new cases reported this year-to-date in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He predicted that we will be to zero by 2018. We are that close!

This past weekend our Rotary District 7150 sponsored a leadership-training event The training sessions were well structured and pertinent, but the most important part of this meeting was the friendships I made. I was in a classroom with thirteen other “students” and had wonderful conversations with fellow Rotarians from Utica, Syracuse, and Schenectady. One very important connection I made was with Mark Matt. I met Mark last year at a couple of events, and this past spring’s District Conference. Mark and I have worked on the Honor Flight grant and will have that completed in the coming days. This coming March I expect that our club will summit another grant proposal, and knowing Mark personally will help make the process smoother.
I think it is imperative for the long-term health of our club that more people participate in these events. There will be another RLI event this spring and it would be great if three or four people sign up. Committee Chairman and other officers of the club will find this to be a very worthwhile. Not only do the participants get a valuable learning experience, they have the opportunity to meet people from other clubs. Trading ideas with them and making new friends is what makes these trips fun.
Annual Christmas Fund Raiser, December 3rdThe Skaneateles Rotary Club’s annual Christmas fund raiser will be held on Thursday December 3rd at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin with a happy hour at 6 PM followed by a family style turkey dinner at 7 PM. Tickets are $25, same as last year, to cover the cost of the dinner at this fine local venue.
As in past years, the dinner will be followed by a raffle of prizes donated by local businesses and professionals as well as by Rotarians. Each of the dinner participants receives a raffle ticket in exchange for making a cash donation to our Skaneateles Rotary Foundation for the benefit of the local Outreach office and the Skaneateles and Spafford Food Pantries for their Christmas gift and dinner programs for the area’s needy. This year we expect that the number of local needy families will be greater than ever.
Each Rotarian is asked to begin planning for this great event by lining up friends, business associates, neighbors, golfing buddies, etc. to invite to dinner on Dec.4. Last year there were 200 of us enjoying the holiday ambiance and great food at the Club, the camaraderie of guests and fellow Rotarians and especially the warm positive emotion of helping others during the Christmas season. Last year we raised over $10,000!
Jack Hyatt and Amy Tormey are in charge of tickets and he is once again encouraging Rotarians individually or in partnership to put together an 8 0r 10 person table of guests. The goal this year is to again reach a capacity level of 200 participants, Jack and Amy, and the other committee members (Steve Schwartz, Peter Adams. Charlie McElroy. Dale Zabel. John Moran. Bob Holloway, Jack Hyatt. Robin Jowaisas. Roy MacDonald and David Piper) will be at upcoming meetings to provide additional information, to answer any questions, and most importantly, to reserve tickets for Rotarians and their guests. Jack asks that those reserving tickets and tables pay him in advance of the 4th with a check made out to the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation.
Finally, the organizing committee needs fellow Rotarian support in coming up with raffle prizes. The goal is to have at least 50% of attendees win a prize. While local merchants and professionals will be canvassed again this year for prize donations, all Rotarians are also being asked to donate prizes such as a bottle of wine, a gift card, etc. Please let Roy McDonald know in advance of the event what you will be bringing in the way of a prize. Even if you can’t attend the event, please contribute a raffle prize.

State Street School Halloween Partyt & Hauted Hall Ways Canceled - Lori Ruhlman announced that this year’s” Haunted Hallways” in State Street School is canceled due to a shortage of student participation this year. Amy Tormey announced that the Annual Halloween donuts and cider event would be canceled as well, with an eye on "reinventing" it next year.
Rotary Chtristmas Benefit - . Jack Hyatt distributed tickets for this year’s Rotary Christmas Benefit that is being held on December 3rd in the SCC.
Rotary Eastern Dinner - Ward Vuillemot spoke on the Rotary Eastern Fellowship Meeting that he recently attended in Rochester, and shared the latest good news on Polio Eradication.
Auburn's Mayer Mike Quill - Bill Conole introduced Auburn’s Mayor Mike Quill by pointing out that compared with most upstate NY Cities Auburn is doing fairly well. Mayor Quill noted that he was born & raised in Auburn. After serving in the US Marines Mike returned to Auburn & served for 32 years in the Auburn Fire Department. Mike is running for his 3rd term as Mayor. Mike reviewed Auburn’s many recent positive developments. Thanks to the cooperation of many citizens & many citizen groups Auburn’s downtown is vibrant with many thriving restaurants & a popular theater. The downtown’s great atmosphere is attracting young people to Auburn. Several apartment complexes have been renovated & turned into upscale condominiums. Mayor Quill also soberly assessed the challenges confronting Auburn. Like most upstate cities Auburn has a difficulties attracting new job creating industries. Mayor Quill & his staff are working diligently to meet these challenges & to keep Auburn moving forward in the coming years.

LONG TERM EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Outbound - The 2015-16 Rotary Youth Exchange Outbound students have departed for a year as exchange students abroad. Sofia Darovskikh, to Finland, and Zach Driscoll to Germany. We wish them all the best on their "adventure of a lifetime".
Inbound - students have arrived: Daniela, from Chile, hosted by Cecillia & Rod Stabile, and Vincent Lambert form France, hosted by Charley & Kim Driscoll.
