PRESIDENT'S CORNER ... by Prez Bill
Greetings, Skantarians! This past Thursday the Board resolved to pursue a grant to assist ShelterBox, a disaster relief charity started by a Roary Club in England. Many thanks to Cathy Powell, Ward Vuillemot and Tom Deuson of the Watertown Club for introducing us to this opportunity. We also responded to several local requests for donations, including the YMCA, After the Ball and the Skaneateles Historical Foundation. Thank you Board members for your participation and input.

RI PRES-ELECTS ADDRESS ROTARIAN AT PETS
Rotary International President Elect, Ian Risely, from Australia participated in, and was the key-note speaker at, the multi-district President Elect Training Seminar (PETS) held this weekend at the University Sheraton in Syracuse.  PETS was attended by incoming club presidents from the region's four districts (7120, 7150, 7170 & 7190).  Our PE Mary Giroux participated in the two day sessions.
RI PE Ian Risely addressed many regional Rotarian and their guest at a special dinner Saturday evening.  His remarks focused upon the many life changing programs that the Rotary Foundation (RF) supports around our world. His years of experience of knowledge the foundations significant programs and successes, i.e. world wide Polio Eradication mixed with his great sense of humor, left the audience with a greater understanding of the power of Rotary, and Rotarian's positive impact upon the world.
The dinner was attended by Bill and Pat Conole, Gary Lorey, Ward Vuillemot and two of our exchange students; Benjamin and Josep.   .... by Ward
YE STUDENTS ON THE MOVE
Two of our Exchange student, Benjamin and Josep have moved to their third and final host families. Benjamin, from Austria, has moved to the family of Todd and Jill Marshall.  Josep, from Spain, has moved to the family of Gary and Jennifer Prochna.
Elisa will not move for approximately another 3 weeks.
LAST WEEK: .... by Bill Conole
The Beginnings - Prior to dinner Ward announced that Cathy Powell, again won a handcrafted wine stopper. Kudos to Ward for raising   a considerable sum for Polio Plus by selling these beautiful wine stoppers. Ward reported that our club has raised $ 4,885 towards our Foundation goal of $6200. We are at 79% of our goal. Our club has raised $1792 for Polio Plus.  We are at 92% of our goal of $2,000.
IWD Update - Amy Tormey announced that last Thursday's successful Skaneateles Rotary Club 3rd Annual International Women's Day Celebration raised $5,000 for the campaign to fight Alzheimers. President Bill congratulated Amy & her hardworking committee for making this annual event so great.
Kudos to Gary - Ward was pleased to note that in the coming months Gary Ozminkowski will be taking over as Operations Manager of  CNY Books for the World, Inc.  This a portion of the CNY BFTW tasks that Ward is divesting himself from.
Skantarian & Exec-Sec tasks transferring - Ward announced Mary Giroux will take over the Skantarian 2018 & that Cheryl Silvestrini has volunteered to become our club's executive secretary in the new Rotary year..  Ward has been toiling on these worthwhile projects for many years. President Bill Thanked Ward for his excellent &many contributions to our club.
YE Presentations
Ben Mitterlehner -  Austria Benjamin Mitterlehner, from Austria,  described the breathtaking beauty of his homeland Austria. Through pictures Ben introduced us to his handsome family. Ben briefly outlined Austria's proud history & it's current structure. Ben has thoroughly enjoyed his stay in Skaneateles & expressed gratitude to his host families & to our club for sponsoring his year long visit to the US.
Josep Ausio Toro - Josep said he is from a suburb of Barcelona that is almost as beautiful as Skaneateles. Josep is enjoying both Skaneateles High School's  academics & it's extra curricular activities. Josep started on the high school's very good soccer team. Without any wrestling experience Josep became a member of the wrestling team. Josep is looking forward to playing on the tennis team this Spring. In Spain & in Austria high schools concentrate solely on academics. Josep thanked his host families for their generous hospitality & he thanked our club for making his memorable yearlong stay possible.

50/50 - Won by Cathy Powell, once again. The elusive Queen of Spades remains concealed in the shrinking deck of cards

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"The stage is a magic circle where only the most real things happen, a neutral territory outside the jurisdiction of Fate where stars may be crossed with impunity. A truer and more real place does not exist in all the universe."  by P.S Baber
