Last WEEK Sept 15, 2022  by Mary
Guests  - Dorothea Hughes, Executive Director of the Skaneateles YMCA/Community Center and John Kopely
Membership/Attendance  - 40 active members, 15 attending
The Beginnings - Co-Pres Ayaham led us in the Pledge of Allegiance after which Dan Roche led us in "America the Beautiful".
Club business -
  • Dictionary Project - Craig will be organizing the Dictionary project this year with assistance from Ward.  If you would like to help contact Craig Froelich.
  • Duck Dash - Ayham brought us up to date on Duck Dash plans.  If you have sold or unsold tickets in your possession please get them to Ayham before next week.  The article below provides additional details and service opportunities.
  • RLI - Ward reminded us of the Rotary Leadership event at Vernon on September 24th.  Ward will be attending and is happy to ride share.  This is an opportunity to learn more about Rotary.
  • The Creamery- If you will be attending the September 29th meeting remember that it begins at The Creamery at 6:00 pm.  We will have a tour and then walk to The Sherwood for dinner.  Be sure to RSVP as The Creamery needs a headcount.
  • Upcoming meetings- Mike Waters on October 6th to tell us about his sports journalism experiences.  A special meeting on Oct 20th with Kelly Springer of "Kelly's Choice."  Bring your spouse, a friend and a potential recruit!
  • October 13 - Happy Hour location and host are needed!
  • Books for the World- Gary asked for helpers to pack books at the Middle School the week of the 19th.  Contact Gary Ozminkowski for details.
  • Thank You - Jack Hyatt thanked the club members that helped with clams and corn at the Firemen's Field Days.  They were a great success.
The Program - Bill C introduced our guest Dorothea Hughes, Executive Director of the Skaneateles YMCA/Community Center.  Dorothea has been our guest many times and stated that she felt like she was "amongst family".  She thanked us collectively and individually for all of our support throughout the years and most recently for our support with the Duck Dash.  The Y weathered the pandemic storm and recovered nicely.  There is some bad news.  The building is not owned by the YMCA, but by a Trust.  As the Y and the Trust could not agree on a new contract going forward, new management will take over January 1st.  We will certainly miss Dorothea.  Under her leadership programs have grown and flourished.  Thank you, Dorothea, for all that you have given to our community!
The Ending - Ayham led us in the Four Way Test.

  • Second Thursday - Optional attendance at Happy hour from 5:30 to 6:30.
