Mini Meeting Mulligan ... by Terry As corona virus sidelines our weekly meetings at the Sherwood Inn, the Club is seeking safe social alternatives. A proposal put forward by Chuck O’Neil to hold small group get-togethers at members home, optimally outdoors. The idea was received with positive enthusiasm. Last week, Suzette Grinnals generously offered to host the first Mini Meeting at her home on Thursday, July 23rd. We had mini results for our first try with several RSVP responses indicating daytime work commitments. We are taking a mulligan on our first mini meeting swing with plans to try again with a new scheduled date and time.
Membership/Attendance: - 48 Active members - 17 attending.
Guests: Jason Armijo (proposed member) and Doug Hill (prospective member).
Program:
President Dave opened the meeting by welcoming our newest club member Rosemary Mondo, our soon-to-be newest member Jason Armijo and potential new member Doug Hill.
Plans for next week's socially distanced and masked meeting at the American Legion were reviewed. Robin, Ed Evans and Bill B are making arrangements. Meal choices from the Sherwood need to be sent to Ed E by Tuesday of next week. Ward will send separate communication about this so be sure to check email. (see notice above)
We'll welcome our new District Governor, Cheryl Matt, at the September 17th Zoom meeting. For the benefit of new members (and really everyone) Ward reviewed the Rotary structure and the District Governor's role.
Meeting format was discussed. The first attempt at a small meeting was cancelled due to work and timing conflicts. Terry will continue to work on this. Terry and Chuck O'Neil will write something up for the newsletter about the process. (see Mini Meeting Mulligan above)
Bill Conole suggested that "classification talks" by our new members would be a good fit for our Zoom meetings.
Ward let us know that blueberries are ripe and ready at the Powell's farm.
Ward introduced the a newly formed Woodastan Rotary Club of Basswood, USA (see introductions below)
A few Happy Dollars were noted and then Rosemary M led us in the Four Way Test to close the meeting.
Introducing RC of Woodastan... by Ward
To whittle away my down-time these days, I set about to carve out a new group of solid citizens to form the new Woodastan Rotary Club from the community of Basswood, USA. It is a fully inclusive club and all very upstanding citizens of 2 inches. They promised to subscribe to, and honor Rotary's basic plank of "Service Above Self" and all seem to share a common family tree. In addition, they are non-judgmental and let chips fall where they may. However, the club trends towards the older traditions, as they are all solid holzkopfs.
From left to right are: Moe, Flo, Joe, Ann, Abe, Sam, Mac, Sly & Dan. Founding masked president Abe presided over the induction ceremony held at the open air Bass Grove Inn. The meeting was closed out with the traditional recitation of the Rotary 4-Way test.
A special shout-out to friend Hal for providing the itty-bitty Rotary pins to all the new members.
