CAN YOU NAME THIS ROTARIAN ? - published in The Skantarian, Oct 6, 2011 - John May  I was born in Brooklyn near Jamaica Bay, where I developed a love of the ocean. Spent hot summer days on muscle beach in the Rockaways, a short hitch hike from home. Attended NY City schools and then the tuition free City College of NY, after which I finagled an assistantship at a large mid-western university. (CCNY that year won both the NIT and the NCAA basketball tournaments, the only school to ever do so) . I met my future wife at a Fraternity/Sorority party at CCNY. After my MS degree, I joined the famous research laboratory in Schenectady of a large corporation which had three Nobel Prize winners on its staff at the time. At work I received the Inventor of the Year award for my patents and scientific publications. Promotions to Pittsfield, Mass., Auburn and then Syracuse eventually brought me to Skaneateles. My past/present community activities in Skaneateles over the past forty years includes Boy Scouts (3 boys), a term as Village Trustee, an interest in lake preservation and other village/town quality of life concerns. Retirement provides me with ample time for golf/lake activities and do-it-yourself projects at home. Living in the village with lake access and a short walk to a fine inn for a great $12.00 meal and wonderful company is a blessing I really appreciate.
