DISTRICT TRF AWARDS- At the Rotary Foundation Brunch last Sunday, the Skaneateles Rotary Club was recognized as the 2013-14 top contributor to Polio Eradication within Rotary District 7150. The total funds given to the Polio cause was $2,600 or 130% of our $2,000 goal. Our Annual fund giving during that same period was $10,270 or 168% of our $6,100 goal. The event was attended by Peter Anderson and Ward Vuillemot, who were both recognized and Paul Harris Society members.
ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE PARTICIPATION - Over the past few weeks, three of our members have attended RLI sessions at Verona and Canandaigua. Bill Blessing completed Part I and Bill Conole took a Graduate course at Verona, and this past Saturday, Cheryl Silvestrini completed Part II at the Canandaigua event. There will be an additional regional opportunity for our members to attend a RLI session in Owego on March 7, 2015. Mark your calendars!
DIST GOVERNOR 2017-18 SELECTED - Phyllis M. Danks has been selected to the position of District Governor for Rotary District 7150 for the year 2017-2018.
Phyllis is a member of the Marcellus Rotary Club where she has held several leadership positions. On our District level, Phyllis has served as Assistant Governor, is a member of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Committee, and is a faculty member of the Rotary Leadership Institute.
GHOSTS, GOBLINS, SCARY HALLS, CIDER & DONUTS - Once again our members supplied refreshments and prizes at the annual State Street School Rotary Halloween event. This has be going on for many years (30++) and gives the children of the village a rest bit from trick-or-treating and an opportunity to share their creative costumes with others. In resent years, the Interact club has greatly enhanced this yearly event with the Haunted Hallways, making it a double treat for the trick-or-treaters. Our thanks and appreciation go out to the Rotarians, Interactors, students and friends who work together to make this an exciting and happy event for the young and young-at-heart of our community. .... by Ward
Annual Christmas Fund Raiser, December 4th The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s annual Christmas fund raiser will be held on Thursday December 4th at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin with a happy hour at 6 PM followed by a family style turkey dinner at 7 PM. Tickets are $25, same as last year, to cover the cost of the dinner at this fine local venue.
As in past years, the dinner will be followed by a raffle of prizes donated by local businesses and professionals as well as by Rotarians. Each of the dinner participants receives a raffle ticket in exchange for making a cash donation to our Skaneateles Rotary Foundation for the benefit of the local Outreach office and the Skaneateles and Spafford Food Pantries for their Christmas gift and dinner programs for the area’s needy. This year we expect that the number of local needy families will be greater than ever.
Each Rotarian is asked to begin planning for this great event by lining up friends, business associates, neighbors, golfing buddies, etc. to invite to dinner on Dec.4. Last year there were 200 of us enjoying the holiday ambiance and great food at the Club, the camaraderie of guests and fellow Rotarians and especially the warm positive emotion of helping others during the Christmas season. Last year we raised over $10,000!
Jack Hyatt is in charge of tickets and he is once again encouraging Rotarians individually or in partnership to put together an 8 0r 10 person table of guests. The goal this year is to again reach a capacity level of 200 participants, Jack and the other committee members (Peter Adams, Guido Van der Ven, Steve Schwartz, Roy McDonald, Jack Emmer, Dale Zabel, Bob Holloway, Charlie McElroy, John Moran, & Robin Jowaisas) will be at upcoming meetings to provide additional information, to answer any questions, and most importantly, to reserve tickets for Rotarians and their guests. Jack asks that those reserving tickets and tables pay him in advance of the 4th with a check made out to the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation. ... by Robin
LAST WEEK - Last week our club enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Osteria Salina in Auburn. Amy Tormey worked hard making all the arrangements for a lovely evening which included meeting the owner, Guillermo Salino. Guillermo spoke about his family (Dad is Italian and Mom is from Equador) and how they had always been in the restaurant business. Guillermo talked about the importance of using the finest and freshest ingredients in his dishes, including getting his flour from Italy to make pastas and breads. Guillermo is also owner of Bambino's in Auburn. We were treated to coffee and delicious Italian cookies for dessert. All in all, it was a lovely evening for Rotarians and the many guests that attended. Thank you, Amy, for planning such a nice evening! ... by ... Prez Cheryl.
