Annual Christmas Fund Raiser, December 4th  The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s annual Christmas fund raiser will be held on Thursday December 4th at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin with a happy hour at 6 PM followed by a family style turkey dinner at 7 PM. Tickets are $25, same as last year, to cover the cost of the dinner at this fine local venue.
As in past years, the dinner will be followed by a raffle of prizes donated by local businesses and professionals as well as by Rotarians. Each of the dinner participants receives a raffle ticket in exchange for making a cash donation to our Skaneateles Rotary Foundation for the benefit of the local Outreach office and the Skaneateles and Spafford Food Pantries for their Christmas gift and dinner programs for the area’s needy. This year we expect that the number of local needy families will be greater than ever.
Each Rotarian is asked to begin planning for this great event by lining up friends, business associates, neighbors, golfing buddies, etc. to invite to dinner on Dec.4. Last year there were 200 of us enjoying the holiday ambiance and great food at the Club, the camaraderie of guests and fellow Rotarians and especially the warm positive emotion of helping others during the Christmas season. Last year we raised over $10,000!
Jack Hyatt is in charge of tickets and he is once again encouraging Rotarians individually or in partnership to put together an 8 0r 10 person table of guests. The goal this year is to again reach a capacity level of 200 participants, Jack and the other committee members (Peter Adams, Guido Van der Ven, Steve Schwartz, Roy McDonald, Jack Emmer, Dale Zabel, Bob Holloway, Charlie McElroy, John Moran, & Robin Jowaisas) will be at upcoming meetings to provide additional information, to answer any questions, and most importantly, to reserve tickets for Rotarians and their guests. Jack asks that those reserving tickets and tables pay him in advance of the 4th with a check made out to the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation.
Finally, the organizing committee needs fellow Rotarian support in coming up with raffle prizes. The goal is to have at least 50% of attendees win a prize. While local merchants and professionals will be canvassed again this year for prize donations, all Rotarians are also being asked to donate prizes such as a bottle of wine, a gift card, etc. Please let Roy McDonald know in advance of the event what you will be bringing in the way of a prize. Even if you can’t attend the event, please contribute a raffle prize. ... by Robin
LAST WEEK - Bill Buterbaugh opened his Rotary Presentation by noting that November is Rotary Foundation Month. The mission of the Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.  Bill noted that our Skaneateles Rotary Foundation was established in 2007 as a not for profit organization to benefit primarily the charitable, educational, health, welfare, and recreational needs in our community. Bill cited several examples where our club obtained Foundation Grants to benefit Africa & to help upgrade our Austin Park baseball fields. Bill encouraged every member of our club to contribute even a nominal amount for this worthy cause. Bill pointed out that there are Rotary District matching funds/PHF points  available for the first 20 or contributions of $100 (see Matching points article above). Bill asked our members to consider a gift in the form of a cash donation, a pledge, or a bequest in your will to our Skaneateles Rotary Foundation. ... by Bill Conole

WHAT BILL GATES SAID  "You may have heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. There's another day you might want to know about: Giving Tuesday. The idea is pretty straightforward. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, shoppers take a break from their gift-buying and donate what they can to charity."
