LAST WEEK: Lori Ruhlman opened the meeting with a touching prayer that gave thanks to our Lord for the way our Rotary Club & our community came together this past weekend in setting up & conducting our 46 th annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast.
Before handing the gavel to our incoming President Cheryl Silvestrini, Our outgoing President Bill Conole recapped some of our club’s major achievements during the past year. Our Club Foundation Committee comprised of Bill & Corinne Buterbaugh, Chuck O’Neil & Ward set up a format that enabled our club to raise more than 160% of the goal. Our Christmas Fundraiser headed up by Guido van der Ven & his active committee raised over $12,000 this year. In last week’s pancake breakfast Robin Jowaisas coordinated another highly successful & fulfilling community event. In 2014 our club secured two Rotary Grants. The first grant of $5,000 will help our community restore 3 baseball diamonds in Austin Park. The second grant of $3,300 will help restore a clinic in war-ravaged Sudan. Club members thanked Bill for his service & heartily welcomed our new President Cheryl.
Roberta Williams & Doug Rutan our club membership chairs stressed how important it is for all of to seek out potential new Rotarians. Roberta cited this past weekend’s pancake breakfast as a sterling example of Rotary’s motto of “service above self”. Doug reviewed the Rotary format for proposing a new member. As Rotarians, one of our primary responsibilities is to help identify & propose new members. All of us can contribute to our club’s membership by bringing in qualified business & professional leaders who are committed to advancing the mission of Rotary. ... by Bill Conole
ROTARY FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTION RESULTS (2013-14) - Congratulations Skantarians! Our club has far exceeded its Rotary Foundation goals in both Annual Giving and Polio Plus restricted giving. We set an Annual Giving goal of $6,100 and the actual was $10,260 or 168% of goal. Our PolioPlus goal was set at $2,000 and the actual is $2,600, or 130% of goal. 39 of our 62 members participated over the year for a total of $12,860. The district numbers are not in yet, but I believe this puts well in the lead of the rest district clubs in total Annual Giving. Our total giving to the Rotary Foundation of the years has been $174,255. Rotarians changing and saving lifes through the many health, education and humanitarian programs of The Rotary Foundation. ... by Ward
