LAST WEEK  .... by Prez Cheryl .
Picnic - A nice time was had by all who attended the Club Picnic at St. James on Thursday, September 11th.  This annual picnic is held to thank the volunteers who helped with the Pancake Breakfast, as well as welcome our new exchange students and recognize host families.
Robin Jowaisas reported that there were 2,880 people who attended the breakfast, and there was a net profit of about $13,900.  Robin thanked John Moran, Chair of Ticket Sales, for his effort in promoting advance sale tickets, as well as Jack Emmer for a very successful 50/50.  In addition to the 50 Rotarians who worked the breakfast, Robin thanked the 150 volunteers which included 35 Boy Scouts; 35 spouses, partners, and family; 30 youth exchange students and host families; 20 community friends and neighbors, including volunteers from the American Legion; 10 students; 15 Interact members; and 5 members from the morning club.  Cheryl thanked Robin for his continuing hard work and dedication to the Pancake Breakfast.
Gard Lorey welcomed each of the inbound Youth Exchange students who introduced themselves.  Marcus Moraes is from Brazil; Katariina Huru is from Finland; and, Bartek Narwasinski is from Poland.  Gard recognized their host families, as well as those who have hosted in the past.  Lori Ruhlman thanked all Rotarians involved in Youth Exchange including Lee Bennett and John O’Sullivan.
Karen Price recognized those involved in the Short Term Exchange Program (STEP):  Julia Hearn – Italy, host sister Guila; Adam Oliver – France, host brother Antonin; and, Allison Purdy – Austria, host sister Katharina.
Cheryl thanked Karen Price for organizing another wonderful picnic, and recognized Karen’s committee of Interact students and seniors:  Brenda Buff, Joe Benedict, Katariina Huru, Emily Baker, Bailey Abernethy, Joe Buck, Ali Tomlinson, and Sophie Darovsky.  Cheryl also thanked the evening’s caterer, Tom Benedict, and Dina Sakal of Savior Fare who baked the delicious – and beautiful – cake which was decorated with the flags from Poland, Brazil, and Finland in honor of our 3 Youth Exchange students.
Guests – Many spouses, host families and Pancake Breakfast volunteers.
IMPORTANT MEETING THIS WEEK:  by Doug .... All Rotarians are strongly encouraged to attend the club’s regular Thursday meeting,  Sept 18, at the Sherwood. The program  will be the Annual Meeting of the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation (SRF) which all of us are members. This important Annual Meeting will include: 1) a review of the history and purpose of the SRF, 2) the election of two new SRF board members (nominees: Roberta Williams and John Moran), 3) a review of SRF finances for the 2013/14 fiscal year including a recap of “worthy cause” disbursements and, 4) an introduction to the SRF Endowment Fund which the  Club has agreed to establish in lieu of conducting an additional annual fund raiser. A strong showing of attendance at this meeting is needed to establish a quorum and especially given the importance to the club membership of the topics to be presented and discussed.
THIS WEEK: Skaneateles RC Foundation Annual Meeting - Update & voting on new SRF members.  BOD Meeting at 5PM
NEXT WEEK: Mandana Inn -Same time different venue for the evening.
