GIRL SCOUTS - Donna Danylec gave a excellent presentation of the Girl Scout movement in today’s world. Traditional scouting still exists with camping & crafts but is now strengthen to give girls greater confidence, poise, speaking abilities and much greater exposure to the social, educational and financial problems of the nation. They have early exposure to higher education with emphasis on science and math with weekend trips to colleges and universities thanks to Wells College, Cornell and Colgate and other universities throughout the state. Of particular concern is the high incidence of depression among young girls and scout leaders spend a considerable amount of time on this problem. 19.8% is eligible girls in Skaneateles are in scouting. Rotarian Cathy Powell stressed the importance of the Girl Scout movement and recalled her early days in scouting. YOUTH EXCHANGE FAREWELLS - Fabrinana, Soern and Bam Bam then gave very emotional “good bye” talks. All three recounted their exceptional year here in Skaneateles.
